It is my hope and prayer that this letter captures your heart and conscience. From 1999-2007 snowmobiling in Wisconsin alone has tragically experienced 207 deaths due to snowmobile accidents.

Most of us can only imagine the pain and suffering these deaths have caused family and friends of these victims. The most tragic part is of this statistic is the fact that these deaths could have been prevented. During the 2006-2007 season, an astounding 42 % of the fatalities were related to excessive alcohol while 73% were related to speed. This statistic can seem somewhat cold and yet unnerving, but quickly forgotten at the end of a season.

It is easy to "say" that something needs to be done, but what a challenge it is to actually take action and begin to make changes.

SADR was formed for two reasons: First, to preserve the sport of snowmobiling as a safe, exciting family recreation, and Second, to assist in preventing any more unnecessary deaths.

As many already know, while snowmobiling in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in the 1999-2000 season, Edward Thorne, the founder of SADR, Inc., personally came face to face with the scene of a 21 year old man fighting for every breath of his precious life as it weighed in the balance as a result of a snowmobile accident. This is a gruesome scene that has replayed time and time again in his mind. It has changed his life, and he will never forget it.

It is time we stop "talking" about doing something about this senselessness and start TAKING ACTION to make changes.

As a result of his experience during the winter of 1999-2000, he could no longer stand by and watch the snowmobiling community risk lives through careless use of alcohol.

Together we can make a difference. Your help is needed in the form of monetary donations, office equipment and your support in helping to spread the word. Without your generosity, SADR will be forced to shut down. We simply cannot do it alone, we need your help to continue to make progress and see our objectives become fulfilled and advance the goals of this organization.
