Victim fell through ice while operating a snowmobile

12-23-00 Catfish Lake, Vilas County. 45 year old male. BAC was 0.026.
Victim was thrown from machine onto snowmobile trail and was hit by next sled .

12-26-00 town of Hartland, Shawano County. 21 year old male.
Alcohol was not a factor. Victim, passenger fell off the sled and was struck by a following machine.

12-31-00 Town of Colby, Clark County. 39 year old male. BAC was .0250.
Victim's snowmobile broke down. He was a passenger on another snowmobile and fell off on a bump. Victim was struck by following snowmobile.

1-1-01 Town of Tomah, Monroe County. 24 year old male.
Alcohol was not a factor. Snowmobile was being operated on wrong side of road facing oncoming traffic. When snowmobile was struck by a truck.

1-14-01 Town of King, Lincoln County. 56 year old male. BAC was 0.151.
Victim was stuck in ditch along roadside. While snowmobile was being pushed, the track of the snowmobile suddenly caught projecting the snowmobile out onto county road where it was struck by an oncoming automobile.

1-19-01 Town of Siren, Burnett County. 20 year old male.
Alcohol was not a factor. Victim was struck by a truck while crossing the Hwy and received multiple injuries. Victim was on life support for almost a month.

1-20-01 Town of Ripon, Fond du Lac County. 30 year old male.
Alcohol was not a factor. Victim was the 4th sled in a group of four. Victim missed a right hand turn, flew off the trail and struck a tree. Cause of accident, unfamiliar area and speed.

1-20-01 Town of New Haven, Adams County. 40 year old male. BAC was 0.164.
Victim was operating on public snowmobile trail. Victim succumbed to the head and chest trauma caused by impact with trees.

1-20-01 Connors Lake, Sawyer County. 44 year old man. BAC was 0.122.
Victim riding near Connors Lake left the trail and hit a tree. Cause of death, multiple internal injuries.

1-24-01 Town of Cooks, Chippewa County. 28 year old male. BAC was 0.029.
Two sleds were operating on a private trail approaching the crest of a hill, one southbound, one northbound. Both driver and passenger ion the northbound sled were killed. Speed appeared to be the factor.

2-3-01 Town of Bashaw, Washburn County. 21 year old male.
Alcohol was not a factor. Victim and a second snowmobiler were operating on private property. The two victims collided head on.

2-3-01 town of Richfield, Wood county. 25 year old male. BAC was 0.108.
Victim was operating snowmobile adjacent to the Hwy. Victim struck three-strand wire fence. Victim was struck in the throat and head. Alcohol may have been a factor.

2-7-01 Town of Pine River, Lincoln County. 67 year old male.
Alcohol was not a factor. The victim failed to negotiate a 90 degree turn and left the trail then struck a tree.

2-10-01 Town of Lincoln, Forest County. 23 year old male. BAC was 0.043.
Victim failed to negotiate a 90 degree turn and struck a tree.

2-13-01 Town of Wolf River, Outagamie County. 23 year old male. BAC was 0.120.
Victim left trail and proceeded into and through a ditch line. He was thrown off after hitting brush and branches.

2-18-01 Town of Matteson, Waupaca County. 34 year old male. BAC was 0.156.
Victim was in a party of eight when the victim failed to negotiate a 90 degree turn , hitting a snow berm, sending the victim airborne and sticking a tree.

2-21-01 Town of Stratford, Marathon County. 25 year old male.
Alcohol was not a factor. Victim's snowmobile hit a snowdrift, became airborne which ejected the victim from the machine.

2-23-01 Town of Plainfield, Waushare County. 52 year old male.
Alcohol was not a factor. Victim was hit by a pickup truck while crossing the road.

2-23-01 Town of Washburn, Bayfield County. 16 year old male.
Alcohol was not a factor. Victim and another snowmobile collided on a public trail.

2-24-01 Town of Lakewood, Oconto County. 24 year old male.
Victim operating on a road not designated as a route and failed to negotiate a curve. Victim became airborne striking a tree.

3-15-01 Green Bay, Marinette County. 43 year old male. BAC was 0.212
Four males on separate machines became disoriented due to fog. Two of the riders went through the ice and were rescued by companions. The four men then rode double on the two remaining sleds. As they continued to find their way, one of the sleds rode onto very thin ice killing both the victim and passenger.
